An Auspicious Day

Yesterday morning our barn door opened and the woman said "Sheaffer, this is your special day!" Of course I assumed the worst -more stabbing by Dr. Maggie or possibly more wormer being unceremoniously stuffed down my throat. Turned out it was my 13th birthday. As TJ so charmingly put it, I'm now officially as old as dirt. Then as a birthday present, he gave me rather a bad bite on my face. Fortunately I landed a kick that sent him half way across the paddock. All very festive, I don't think.

Later in the day the woman came to lead me over to the house where I was presented with something called a birthday cake. It was an interesting collection of foodstuffs on a plate but some idiot had set three wax sticks in there and lit them on fire. I snapped my ears to attention and backed across the lawn at record speed. They quickly blew out the three fires but I wouldn't touch a thing until they handed the items to me individually. The male human tried to convince me it was the same as the fire pit that I roll in, only in miniature, but I was having none of it. I don't like my snacks to smell of fire and brimstone and to taste of wax.

All in all I find un-birthdays easier on my nerves.

Happy Birthday, Sheaffer! You just made my day with the pictures and captions. I don't know why but that second one set me off into laughter that ended up in tears and with my stomach aching!

I once baked a gourmet carrot cake for my horse Keil Bay and he backed into the rear corner of his stall, blowing and showing the whites of his eyes. And it wasn't even on fire!

I hope your day has been a special one. I think you are only beginning to come into your very best, most wise years.

A belated but VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you, Sheaffer! Looks like you got a "fruit cake" for your celebration...I hope you didn't have to share any with TJ. Hmmm, too bad they didn't spring for a cream pie that you could have tossed into TJ's face!

How dare he bite you!!! I'm sure your humans have applied soothing ointments and many get well kisses.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHEAFFER !!!!
yeah, the fire part is kind of weird, but I bet it tasted good, huh?
As for chief walking eagle, he should just keep on walking, right off a cliff....I sort of liked the TJRotten idea though..LOL....

Sheaffer, was your kick a one legger out the side or a full bore both barrels kick out the rear? wish I had been there to see THAT one..remember that old age and treachery will overcome youth and enthusiasm EVERY TIME..I am of an age that I need to remember these things..also, remember that a donkey can live to 40 years or so, so you have all that time to make TJ's life miserable..LOL..

Wow! Fruit cake!!! Hope you had a happy day Sheaffer. Especially the bit where you had to put TJ in his place. MWAHAHAHA Maybe you should do that more regularly??

Thank you all for your good wishes. I've recovered from the flaming cake incident and they've promised to never cause me that sort of terror on my special day again.

I managed to land both back feet at full extension on TJ's furry flank and he gave a very satisfactory "oooffff" when I connected. Almost cancelled out the horror of the cake inferno. Though I fear it didn't make so much as a dent in TJ or his gigantic ego.

Happy Belated Birthday, Shaeffer! Loved your tale of ware and glory! Those wax sticks are unbelievably tasteless (and they stuck to my toofth.) I think you were born under a Most Auspicious Zodiac Sign - Taurus... I was born on April 26, 1988, Daughter Pnut was born on May 12, 2002, and Pony was born on May 13, 2004. Special congratulations on double-barreling the bratty mule! Maybe you could come over here some time and teach my Pony some manners...
