Life In The Arctic

I dictate this as I huddle in my room, windows rattling and snow pellets bouncing off the roof. Yes, it's a snowstorm, doing it's best to assassinate the budding greenery. Welcome to the innermost circle of hell, which has frozen over. We have been working at mowing the emerging grass, a task which Chester finds particularly appealing as he didn't previously have access to a salad selection. He has appointed himself our guardian and caretaker and fortunately is beginning to relax somewhat on that front. He still watches me like the proverbial hawk, standing over me whilst I doze in the sand ring, but at least he isn't within nose reach at all times any more. As you may have seen, my annual fundraiser is approaching and invitations are being sent out in various forms. I live in hope that the Royal family will send at least a junior representative but this year some sort of wedding event is taking place so no doubt they are preoccupied. In their absence I will do my best to preside in a royal fashion. Maybe by then it will have stopped snowing. Maybe...

Sheaffer, what a sweet photo of you resting with your body guard beside you. Chester is taking his new role seriously, it appears!!

I am desperately trying to think of something to contribute to the auction for your annual birthday extravaganza and benefit for Primrose. If you have any ideas, let me know.

billie, Chester is an intensely serious young man, He seems to feel I'm in danger or being whisked away by unseen forces - which is what happened to his donkey friend at the meat auction. Thank you for thinking of our fundraiser - could you send us some bottled southern sunshine? That should ensure spirited bidding. Other than that anything you can think of would be more than lovely.

Hay Sheaffer - wow that Chester is quite a horse - making sure the royal member of the famblee has a bodyguard! Mom thinks he is very handsome!

Its 88 and sunny here today. Guess what? I got a massage from a real equine massage lady yesterday - it was WONDERFUL. I think you should get one Sheaffer!!

Sheaffer-

I think it is sweet that Chester is so protective of you. :)

I'd like to send something for the fundraiser - do you have contact info that would facilitate the donation process?

Buddy, Herself thinks he looks like a smaller version of you and I must say I agree. A massage? That sounds wonderful - I could certainly see myself draped on a special table whilst quiet hands chased away all my accumulated stress and tension. Oh yes, this is something I definitely need but fear I will never experience in this stalag.

Calm, Straight, Forward - Chester is a military man at heart. He likes everything organized, well-managed and on time. You are very kind to think of the fundraiser - the address for the sanctuary is PrimRose Donkey Sanctuary, 1296 Bowmanton Road, Roseneath, Ontario, K0K 2X0. If you go that route please make a note that the contribution is for the May 28th "Do". Sheila is as meticulous as Chester when it comes to keeping track of things. Or you can reach me at sheaffer1@live.ca and I can give you my mailing address and have Herself take the donation to the party on the day. Thank you for your thoughtfulness.

Hi Sheaffer,

Unfortunately, I am still reporting from the correspondent's desk at the donkey sanctuary. My mom, Bert spent several days at the vet clinic and is now back here with me. She has to be on a very strict diet and will have to go back to the clinic for more tests.
It has been decided that as soon as I find a new friend the both of us will be heading home and my mom will stay here at the sanctuary until her health issues have been sorted out.
It will be very difficult to leave her behind when I head home but Geo, my horse friend will be waiting for me and I will take great delight in showing my new donkey friend "the ropes".
Besides helping to look after the "special needs" donkeys here at the sancturary I have also been helping the farrier. This has earned me the royal sounding name of The Court Jester!!!!
I was pleased to hear that you have a new friend and that he is looking after you.

Willy, this is all quite alarming and at the same time exciting. Your esteemed mother must still need extra medical supervision. I know you would like her to go home with you but on the other hoof you will be able to show the new recruit around and also to exercise your leadership/domination skills. Geo will be ecstatic to see you as will the donkey ladies. You have your work cut out for you - I advise a strengthening diet of Stud Muffins and apples...

Hi Sheaffer,

I will contact my friends, Uncle Ed and Winsome Wendy and see if they can provide a supply of stud muffins and apples. The donkey sanctuary workers are very strict about not allowing vast quantities of snacks but I am sure we can get a few smuggled in.

I hope you didn't float away in all the rain we had today. We have huge puddles everywhere.

Willy

Willy, your photo at the top of your stationery is quite stunning and most tasteful. Those humans must be made to understand that sugary treats line the road to recovery for your esteemed mother - I leave this matter in your capable hoofs.
