Criminal Activity

I want to assure my readers that I was in no way involved with any of the following shady goings-on. My record remains unblemished but the same cannot be said for the young Haflinger element around here. The swath of destruction continues to expand daily.

Although it makes him equal parts sticky and smelly, the heat has not affected Chester's energy level in the least. When the woman foolishly decided to change our routine so we were outside during the night time, Chester's energy level expanded even further. He spent the first night galloping around, snorting and splattering the barn with mud. The second night he spent digging under the trees - unearthing buried treasure he calls it - and the third night he outdid himself and tore the door off the run-in. I have included photographic evidence. After three nights we were switched back to our usual routine.

Molly's ankle is much better but still has a bit of a stammer when she trots, so she is not going to the trail riding get-together next week at my friend Smokey's establishment. She is furious. I know that somehow I will pay for this. Wait until she finds out she has to go on some sort of slimming drug meant for thyroid cases. Her test results are at the low end of normal and the vet has decided to help her along with a weight loss stimulator. This does not bode well.

I continue to pursue a balanced approach to the growing/shedding of winter hair. I always err on the side of caution - I do not, as some suggest, look like a balding buffalo lap robe. I include a photo of self so you can see exactly what I mean.

Camryn here: Yu are the cutest innocent bystander ever. Human says she's glad Chester doesn't live here. Nothing against him but, she can live without the mayhem. Though I have opened several gates and even bent one down to walk over onced. I hope Molly's foot gets better soon an her diet doesn't drive her 2 crazy.

Sheaffer, no one in her right mind (hint, hint) would ever suspect YOU of criminal activity!!!

The donkey shedding issue I feel reflects the innate nature of donkeys. Horses just go crazy and shed the whole lot of their hair.

Donkeys shed it in bits and pieces, slowly, carefully, almost as if they are considering the implications of each hair that falls.

Rafer has finally gone through this thoughtful process and for a few weeks has been as sleek as can be. However, even as we hit three digit temps here, it's obvious he is already thinking about those cold winter days when he will need his coat. You can almost see the winter coat poised, ready to grow in.

Redford is holding on to some of LAST year's winter coat, just in case we have a sudden frost. Or else he's considering traveling to colder climes, which given his recent desire to go on excursions, seems the more likely scenario.

Sending our best to Molly, who I am sure is fit to be tied. And to Chester, who it seems is livening things up for The Woman and for all of you with his many talents. Archaeologist, woodworker, construction engineer, waste recycler. My goodness, before you know it he will be getting his own certificate like Jack did!!

I would console Molly with the knowledge that Tammy pony once spent a whole summer enclosed in a starvation paddock with multiple strand electric fencing AND a grazing muzzle! She now gets Pergolide tablets to help with her Cushings & says diet pills are a much kinder option than enclosed living.

I also have shed my ENTIRE winter coat, with the result that the women has ceased referring to me as a "beer keg on legs". She also says that I look like a racing whippet compared to your esteemed self, but she has never fully understood that we donkeys are not designed to look like racehorses.

I continue to ignore her.

Well. Is it really a surprise that someone who would pluck his companion's last nerve with inconsiderate antics + sleep on a poo-pillow, would also show up first on a broken door suspect list?

Hope Molly is on the mend asap :)

Camryn - why thank you for your wonderful compliment! Molly has a summer gate across the front of her room which she too has bent into a "U" shape with constant sitting and leaning. I believe Chester to be the reincarnation of a wild west outlaw. Molly says her ankle would feel much better if more food were applied to the mouth area.

billie - she is capable of suspecting me of virtually anything...On the winter coat front, you are quite right - we are arch-conservatives. We know the weather can turn on us in minutes. Better somewhat shaggy than horribly cold, we say. Chester is as sleek as a seal and has no thoughts of the approaching winter...nor of anything else other than destruction on a grand scale.

Dougie - you are a wise donkey indeed. I have told Molly of the desirability of taking pills rather than enduring muzzles and confinement. She is always open to the idea of eating - anything. I am a tetch worried to hear of your sleek body shape - are you sure you're being fed enough? Continue to give your woman the cold shoulder until she ups your food intake.

Calm, Forward, Straight - nothing whatsoever Chester does surprises me anymore. I believe he may have a condition called ADD. I must consult billie - perhaps she will offer to have him over for therapy. In which case I hope her insurance is up to date. I have passed your good wishes on to Molly and she rather rudely asked if you will be sending food...completely and utterly typical.

Ah,I neglected to mention that I also spent the summer with Tammy pony in the starvations paddock, so that she "didn't get lonely".

Ignoring the woman IS the wise option, as any mention of my dietary intake might mean that she would remove me from 23 acres of free grazing!

Dougie - I feel for you, my friend. Imagine, being locked with a peevish, dieting pony as "company". You might want to find yourself a good attorney - I think this may be a case of donkey abuse. Make sure any legal settlements are in carrots.

HAy Sheaffer - I think Chester is hilarious - wish he would come here and entertain me.

Give Molly my love!

Your fren,

Buddy - never a dull moment with this boy. He's quite the renovator. I also wish he could live with you...
