I'm Back and I'm FURIOUS

I have been thwarted and muffled lo these many months but finally, something so heinous has come to light that Herself has been forced out of hibernation to woman the keyboard.

That something is this. In the state of Texas, in a town called Van Horn, it is deemed to be a sport to chase after terrified donkeys on horseback, rope them around their necks and feet, throw them violently to the ground and then pull the ropes as tight as possible. This is done repeatedly until the donkeys are so physically and or mentally exhausted and damaged that they can run no more. Humans pay to witness this event and cheer wildly when the donkeys are thus tortured and tormented. They also bring their offspring so they can be taught this attitude toward other living beings. The town of Van Horn has mistaken 2012 for 1512 and will no doubt be enthusiastically supporting bear baiting any time now.

I am including a link to a petition that will allow you to express yourselves on this matter. It is not only in Van Horn that this travesty takes place, but we can at least begin the process of making our voices heard with this petition.

For some reason the link is unclickable but please copy it into your browser and go there to add your name to the rapidly growing list of sensible, humane people who strongly object to this barbaric "sport".

Facebook users should "Like" the page "For the Love of Donkeys" to keep up to date on this issue and learn about other actions you can take to help stop this event which is scheduled to tak eplace in just one week on the weekend of June 23 /24.

Sheaffer, you have no idea how relieved we are to see you writing again. We have felt your absence these many months and worried and wondered and worried some more. We're working very hard to stop this donkey roping thing and thank you very much for coming out of hiding to voice your support against it.
xoxoxo,
George and Alan at the 7MSN

It's so nice to hear from you lads! I have very much missed having my "voice" and sincerely hope Herself has come to her senses. I can assure you, she turned a most unattractive shade of magenta when she first heard of this donkey roping travesty. We will work tirelessly to try and stop the debacle that is scheduled for next weekend. The mind boggles and then simply implodes at the sheer insanity of it all. I have written a polite but clear letter to the editor of the Van Horn Advocate newspaper. And as you can see, my faithful assistant Gazelle is toiling away as well and trying to help us with the links on here for humans to use.

Sheaffer, I'm so happy to see you again here on your blog! I have missed your missives terribly and hope you and The Woman are well. Thank you for supporting the donkeys, as you always do. We here on November Hill have been fussing and writing and grumbling and wishing it were not so far away. I have visions of all the Sheaffer Donkey Posse marching in protest into Van Horn and then spiriting the donkeys away to safety before any of this hideousness can happen.

billie, I am most chuffed to be back in circulation - I trust your donkey lads are well? I have lost nearly half a pound fretting and worrying about those poor, tortured donkeys. I thought of amassing a posse along the way to Van Horn but it seems it may be more than a week's walk away from here. And admittedly I am not a speedy pesestrian. We will continue to agitate and protest and do whatever we can. I wonder if we can persuade this Jason Owen to take up crochet or stamp collecting? Something that doesn't involve anything with a pulse...

Sheaffer, both Rafer Johnson and Redford are well. Rafer Johnson had a little battle with white line disease in his front hooves (I highly suspect it started last fall when he ate more than a reasonable share of acorns and got way too much protein) but with a new trimmer and some fairly fancy trimming of those little hooves, he is fine and dandy now and all grown out to healthy hoof again.

Redford suffered the great donkey humiliation and is now a gelding. Oh, woe - but we no longer have a donkey hanging from the necks of the horses trying to assert his will over them. He is back to his usual self but without the need to boss everything.

I hope you will do a big post catching us all up on your life, which I'm sure has marched on even without your fans reading about it!!

Big hugs from us to you.

billie, I understand "white line" is not just something in the middle of main roads but a wretched foot ailment. I'm pleased to hear the boy is recovered. And how well I remember the procedure visited upon yound Redford - the unkindest cut of all. I have tried to erase it from my memory...
Carry on with the good fight in Van Horn my friends - we have only a week.

Sheaffer, welcome back, you have been missed!

My woman stayed up so that she could place a call to Jason Owens. I like to think that he was influenced by the strength of feeling from somewhere as distant as Scotland, as we've now heard the event has been cancelled!

Hooray & here's hoping all the donkeys are now released into loving care.

Lolooking forward to an update on life Chez Nous. Best wishes to all

I HATE autocorrect!

I did of coure sign the last message "Dougie"

Gazelle, can this be true? Do you think the donkey roping magnate will follow through on his plans to relinquish the donkeys? Herself and I have been frantically trying to raise awareness. She even tried to call the donkey sanctuary in England to ask them all to sign the petition but there were no actual humans, only voice recordings. I feel the need for a cold cloth on my forehead...what a week.

Dougie, did you get to speak to this Jason person yourself? I am most impressed that you and your woman made such an effort. I'm sure all these things add up to make a difference. I do not know this auto correct or is it autocrat? But I know I don't like it/them either.

Gazelle said...

Sheaffer I too feel the need for a cold cloth. I truly did not think there was time to muster enough support and publicity to stop this event, hopefully to prevent an encore event, but not to save this particular herd of Donkeys on this particular day.

Just goes to show what a powerful force for change an international network of *issed off Donkeys and their humans can be.

People just make me so damn mad I could spit.. and then I want to kill a few! Thank goodness there are two camps of people in the sad old world .... and this time we can support the good camp..... and hope like hell they manage to get some real results regarding the banning of ridiculous stunts people insist upon for their own entertainment... we need eyes in the backs of our heads just to keep abreast of the crap they dream up on a daily basis for their own amusement. I'd like to amuse a few donkeys with some really fun stunts I can think of for some of those ignorant rodeo-ers....idiots ...all of them.

oh, and....welcome back Sheaffer....missed you....... hugs...... Vee

Hi Sheaffer,

Welcome back. We have missed you. Our human rushed to the barn to tell us you had reappeared. She said she went weak at the knees when you had new info added to your blog. We, too have been emailing etc to stop the donkey roping. I am sure your blog helped increase awareness of this terribel crime.

Your fan,

Willy
