Arrivals and Departures

Today we saw one of the female animals that resembles an equine but is actually called a deer. She came bounding out of the island of cedars in the middle of our valley, paused to examine us, and bounded off with her white tail held high. These deer creatures know us equines very well but are deathly afraid of the humans and dog.

One summer there was an infant deer who became fascinated with us. He jumped into our paddock and came quite close until his distraught mother called him back very firmly. After that they came every evening and he would jump in with us and frolic around and even pretend to eat grass next to us. Fortunately we had no TJ at the time or the mother deer would have had her worst fears realized. I have hopes that amongst this years crop there will be at least one who wants to explore the other side of the fence. Though we'll have to keep a close watch on TJ - when I told him about this he said "oh yeah, them deer things better watch it cos this is MY turf". Always the mule philanthropist.

Sadly, my good friend Granny from across the road passed away last week. I noticed on Tuesday afternoon that all the tractors went home early from the farm fields in our area and couldn't imagine why. She lived her whole life in our small town and was buried from the little old church on Alice St. I am extremely annoyed that I was told after the fact. I know she would have wanted me to be there. I'm very well-behaved and would not have snacked on any of the flower arrangements. I was so looking forward to our reunion at the "Home". I will never look at another curtain rustling without thinking of Granny.

Sheaffer, remember Granny well, because as long as you remember her, she is not really dead, now is she? You can still go and entertain all of her buddies at the home to carry on her legacy!! How does that sound? I really want to see some pictures of you with all of the grannies at the home....that would be an inspiration to the whole world !!

Thank you Mr. Gale, we are all missing Granny a lot. She had a wonderful send-off, which of course included a "light luncheon" put on by the ladies of the church. How I wish I could have been there. I do enjoy luncheons of any sort.

I'm encouraging the woman to arrange for me to visit a Home so I can commune with my peers. TJ is not invited.

Mr. Gale, thank you and I hope that looking at my visage on your coffee mugs every morning gives you the strength to face the day. Not, as the woman rudely said, scare the bejeebers out of you.

Sheaffer,
The next time I adorn my keyboard, monitor and adjacent walls/friends/whatever is within range with tea to share, I can assure you that it will come from the mug with YOUR EXCELLENT and FOREVER WISE visage upon it!! Is there a thermos available? I may need that to carry tea to share to the next Donkey show....ALL will love it!! I will need to guard it with my Marlin .45-70 for sure, because the lightfingered among the crowd will want one for themselves....will post your cafeexpress address on the side of the trailer....

A Marlin .45-70 is exactly what I need for mule control. I have always fancied a pair of duelling pistols. Of course TJ would want one and then....oh well, maybe I won't get one.

I checked and the cafepress outfit doesn't have thermoses (or is the plural thermai?). I very much appreciate your staunch support of my mission to help needy donkeys. I fear I am soon to be one myself, with TJ as the nighmare room-mate. Who is this "odd couple" the woman keeps mentioning?
